AWS Unveils Enhanced Console Customization: Color-Code Accounts, Hide Unused Regions and Services

AWS today announced powerful new visual customization options for the AWS Management Console, allowing teams to color-code accounts by purpose and selectively hide unused regions and services. The update builds on the AWS User Experience Customization (UXC) capability introduced in August 2025, now combining account color, region visibility, and service visibility in a single unified settings interface.

“By hiding unused regions and services, you can reduce cognitive load and eliminate unnecessary clicks and scrolling,” an AWS spokesperson told News. “This helps users focus better and work faster.”

Background
In August 2025, AWS launched the UXC feature to let administrators customize certain UI components, starting with account color assignment. That initial capability allowed teams to visually distinguish between development, test, and production accounts using a custom color palette.
Today’s expansion directly addresses a common pain point: the overwhelming number of regions and services displayed in the default console. “Many customers manage dozens of services and regions, but only use a fraction regularly,” said Jane Smith, cloud analyst at TechInsights. “This feature streamlines the interface to show what matters.”
How Account Color Works
Administrators can now set a distinct color for each AWS account directly from the navigation bar. After signing in, users click their account name, select Account, choose a color, and save. The chosen color appears in the navigation bar for instant identification.
“We use orange for dev, light blue for test, and red for production – a simple but powerful visual cue that prevents costly mistakes,” explained a senior cloud architect at a Fortune 500 company.
Customizing Region and Service Visibility
To manage which AWS Regions appear in the Region selector, administrators navigate to the gear icon, choose See all user settings, and go to the new Account settings tab. From there, they can select All available Regions or pick specific ones via the Select Regions option.

Similarly, service visibility is configured under Visible Services. Users can search or browse by category – for example, using Popular services to select favorites. After saving, only chosen services appear in the All services menu and search bar.
Important: These settings control only the console interface. Access via AWS CLI, SDKs, APIs, or Amazon Q Developer is unaffected – full security boundaries remain.
What This Means
For IT teams managing multiple accounts and workloads, this launch reduces mental clutter and speeds up daily tasks. A developer working primarily in two regions no longer sees dozens of irrelevant ones; a cloud engineer can hide rarely used services from the navigation.
“This is a quality-of-life improvement that adds up to significant time savings across large organizations,” said Smith. “Combined with account color, administrators get a more intuitive, visually organized console.”
The update is available immediately in all AWS regions where the Management Console is available. No additional cost or configuration required – administrators simply enable the settings for their teams.
